Well, Hello

August 17, 2026

I’m turning 36 today, and thought it was a good day to start a new adventure. While I don’t ascribe to a narrative of new beginnings that erases the old version of you in order to create something shiny and new and perfect in your place, I do love an excuse for contemplation and an intention to move forward with purpose. Birthdays are milestones worth a little hope and bravery, and fulfilling promises to yourself no matter how ill-advised they might be.

It feels strange to be starting a personal blog in 2026. It’s a bit retro, a little silly, and kind of fun. It feels like a slower way to approach things, which I appreciate. I think most people these days bring their thoughts to TikTok or Instagram, filming videos of them speaking into the camera passionately and quickly, reminiscent of YouTube vlogs of the early 2000’s. And I’m happy to find people who share themselves in that way, to watch their skits, or short essays, or to digest bits of information in a way that feels easier in an era when my own attention to anything feels difficult to hold onto.

But there is something innate within me that tells me that I’m not meant for that world. I belong here, with words on a page or a screen, in a slower space where I can overthink everything and have it all laid out in front of me to review. There is something incredibly comforting about text. It sits there, waiting for you. It doesn’t force itself onto you with an automatic play function, running forward before you’re even ready for it. If your attention wanders it sits waiting patiently for you to find your way back to it, never chiding you for your absence. It feels stabilizing in a way that I appreciate.

Avoiding video also means I don’t have to mentally wrestle with the image of my own physical form. While I’m not necessarily camera-shy these days, the idea of having to be perceived by others constantly gives me the willies. I am perfectly content in my little hobbit hole, eating snacks and reading books, and no part of me wants to welcome an audience into my sanctuary.

But I do have thoughts to share. Maybe thoughts you might like to read? If not, I appreciate you stopping by, grab a book on your way out. But if you do stick around I hope that you find it somewhat worth your while.

I don’t have a specific plan for this space, necessarily. I will probably be talking about books a decent amount, mostly Romance books. I have been reading and thinking about books since I was small, and I anticipate it being a favorite topic here. I might bring up some opinions I have about the world and our place within it. But I doubt I will wax too philosophical often. I like the idea of wandering without a destination right now, mapping things as they appear. I’m excited to see what happens, and I appreciate you being here with me.
